Today, we would like to introduce the rice crackers from "Kyoto Rokkaku Busonan," a Kyoto-based rice cracker brand, which are served in our hotel's exclusive lounge for guests.
In the lounge, guests can enjoy complimentary snacks and tea while relaxing in their own way—whether playing board games or origami with family and friends, or spending a quiet moment reading alone. We also curate a selection of local Kyoto snacks and tea so that guests can experience the unique atmosphere of Kyoto during their stay.
Among these, we are highlighting the "Busonan Rice Crackers," which capture the distinctive charm and aesthetic of Kyoto.
"Busonan": Enjoying the Atmosphere of Kyoto and the World of Haiku
"Kyoto Rokkaku Busonan" is a brand specializing in rice crackers and Japanese confections, inspired by the literary world and artistic style of Yosa Buson, a haiku poet from the Edo period.
They offer a wide variety of treats made from domestic rice, with product packaging featuring haiku by Yosa Buson. Guests can enjoy not only the delicious taste of the snacks but also reflect on the scenery and the changing seasons depicted in the haiku. Their main store is located near Rokkaku-do Temple in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto; the charming machiya-style (traditional townhouse) shop itself is another highlight that embodies the atmosphere of Kyoto.
At our hotel, we have selected three unique types of rice crackers from among our many products.
・Aoiso no Kaori (Scent of the Blue Seashore)
A rice cracker that offers the rich flavor of aosa (sea lettuce) seaweed, allowing you to enjoy the aroma of the seashore.
This product is inspired by a haiku evoking the comfort of lying on tatami mats in a seaside room, where the scent of the mats blends with the blowing sea breeze.
・Ebi Meigetsu (Shrimp Full Moon)
A round, pale cherry-blossom-pink rice cracker kneaded with shrimp. Its appearance evokes the image of a beautiful full moon floating in the night sky.
The accompanying haiku captures a uniquely Japanese sensibility regarding the changing seasons—inviting one to savor the beauty of tonight’s moon while reflecting on the cherry blossoms of spring that have passed and the autumn foliage yet to come.
・ Mitsu-Meigetsu (Honey Full Moon)
This treat consists of a light, salty rice cracker glazed with wasanbon syrup, offering a refined sweetness.
The balance between the savory saltiness and the gentle sweetness is exquisite—so delicious that you will find yourself reaching for just one more. The haiku evokes a serene scene: walking along a path in Sagano bathed in soft autumn sunlight, stepping over the shadows cast upon the ground by the treetops.
Imagine the autumn scenery of Kyoto while enjoying the delicate sweetness unique to wasanbon sugar.
During your stay, we encourage you to enjoy the senbei crackers from Buson-an, selected by our hotel, and experience a truly Kyoto-like moment.
