Setsubun 2026

Today, February 3rd, "Setsubun" is celebrated in Japan.

During this festival, people drive away evil spirits and welcome good fortune for the new season through rituals like scattering mamemaki ("roasted beans"): people throw fukumame ("fortune beans") out from the front door of their homes or shrines while shouting "Oni wa soto! Fuku wa uchi!" ("Devils out! Fortune in!").

Another tradition, originally from the Kansai Region, is to eat ehomaki ("lucky direction sushi roll"). The ritual consists of eating in silence while making a wish, facing the direction of eho ("best luck") specified for each year (south-southeast, for 2026).

To celebrate this festival, we have prepared some decorations in the hotel lobby. You can check some photos on our official Instagram page.

Please enjoy this year's "Setsubun"!
